If there was only one steelhead fly, I hope it would be a muddler. Most frequently fished in the surface film it adapts well to sinking line methodologies. All serious steelheaders have a few of these in their fly box. Another great muddler pattern is the After Dinner Mint by the late, great, Mark Noble.
