Barred ostrich is one of our favorite new materials for tying steelhead flies that really pop! The old days of painstakingly barring the herl with a Sharpie marker are now behind us.... This is the only ostrich that we know of that is sold strung - all the fibers extend off of a piece of fabric rather than off the natural stem of the plume. This is like buying a 2.5 inch section of an ostrich plume with 5" long nice and fluffy fibrettes (herl). Incorporating barred ostrich is a great way to make your winter steelhead patterns really stand out.
