CDC stands for Cul Du Canard - which is French for "Butt of the duck." The feathers come from either side of the duck's tail where the oil glands are. The duck uses its bill to spread the oils all over its feathers to waterproof them - called "preening." The feathers are so impregnated with oils that they remain waterproof and hydrophobic forever.
These are high-quality select grade CDC feathers that repel water and trap air bubbles to give your flies a very lifelike appearance at depth and tons of floatation on the surface.Â
Use as a collar on a nymph, particularly popular with Euro Nymph flies, or use as an underwing or a wing on dry flies.Â
