As a steelhead fly tyer, this is one material that I cannot do without. I use the golden pheasant tippets (orange and black feathers) as tails on many of the most popular patterns, they also can be used as hackle in patterns like the General Practitioner. The yellow crest feathers atop the head are used as tails in tons of steelhead and Atlantic salmon traditional patterns.Â
This stuff is becoming harder and harder to source due to bird flu and the high cost of raising birds.Â
On complete head will serve a fly tyer well for hundreds of patterns.
