DETAILS
Any of the flexo crabs will hook triggers, but this one has a thicker and stronger hook. Having hooked over 60 of this crazy, toothy fish, I can say that the thicker hook might help you land the trigger - HOWEVER there is not a hook out there that will withstand the chomping mouth and teeth of the trigger. Your hope with the thicker hook is that it will not straighten out during the fight when you really put the wood to them.
The other flexo crabs that we sell, with slightly less robust hooks, have been proven time and time again to hook triggers at Christmas Island. In fact, the thinner diameter hook is probably better for penetrating their rubbery lips.
We suggest a mix of all colors and sizes of the crab to cover your bases. The white crabs can be fished as-is, OR, you can customize them with tan and brown and olive mottled specks using your permanent markers.
Over our ten years of hosting trips to CXI - we spend 4-5 weeks there each year with 16 people each week, we have had the opportunity to test out all of the types of flexo crabs on the market. The Fulling Mill flexo crabs of all sizes and colors have been the #1 pattern for fooling picky triggers. We suggest that you take a variety of colors and sizes. Big heavy crabs do not do well on calm days or on days when the tide is low and the water is skinny. Best to have standard, micro, and trigger flexos.
