Latest Update on Fires and River Closures

It is very smoky in Maupin today with fires on all sides of us and very little wind. If you are looking to escape the smoke, this is not the place to come.
The river is still closed from Warm Springs to Trout Creek. Trout Creek will open for boat LAUNCHING only - tomorrow morning 7/28. The Mecca Flats Campground and the Trout Creek Campground remain CLOSED. Fires are active in that area.
Everything around Maupin remains OPEN and has not closed. Check on www.tripcheck.com for the latest on road conditions, as many roads are closed due to wildfires.
If you have questions about other campgrounds, please call the BLM Prineville District office: 541-416-6700. They did not say if South Junction Campground was going to be open or not.
Just in from the BLM:
Lower Deschutes Guides and Outfitters,
Update: Segment 1 Closure will be lifted starting on Tuesday 7/28/26, launching will ONLY be permitted from Trout Creek Boat Ramp, Warm Springs and Mecca boat ramps will remain CLOSED due to fire activity. If you already have a pass with those boat ramps as your entrance point, you will be permitted to launch at Trout Creek without needing to make changes to your permit. PLEASE NOTE: Trout Creek and Mecca campgrounds will remain closed to campers.
Thank you,
Kyle Hensley
(acting) Prineville District Manager
