Winter Wonderland!

It has been snowing out here for two days, and we have a winter wonderland on our hands! If you can get out here, you will pretty much have the entire river to yourself. The water conditions look good - the water is bluer than it has been in a while. We should have a blue wing olive hatch today, as snow doesn't seem to deter them, so look for popping heads just after lunch.
Other than a possible blue wing olive hatch, the rest of the day's fishing will require getting down in the water column where the trout like to laze in the winter months. Using an indicator rig will work well, using a non-indicator Euro rig may work better (though that depends on the day and on the angler), and streamers might be a fun alternative to the dead drift. Cast those streamers upstream, get them down using a heavy sink tip, and strip those puppies through the slack water. Big trout will take notice!
One thing to be careful of on a day like today is falling rocks. It is best not to park your vehicle next to any of the tall walls because the freeze and thaw and melt nature of these winter storm events will cause rocks to tumble and could easily put one right through the hood of your car. Also be careful driving on the unplowed snow-covered roads along the river. The rocks may be just hidden under that snowy fluff - and WHAMMO! - there goes your front end.
We are open today and tomorrow - though not holding our breath for any customers to materialize....
Check out the previous report on the Christmas Island trip - this is a great get away for a great price. Other saltwater lodges for one week? $10,000 is the going rate. Unbelieveable! That is the price before airfare, tips, and travel expenses to get there. You could join me on Christmas Island for TWO FULL WEEKS for less than it would cost you to spend one week at a lodge like that one. Lodge price for one week (and you don't share a guide, you have your own personal guide each day) is only $3590. Spots are filling fast, so call me. October is one of the least crowded months to fish on Christmas Island. The busiest months are February and March.
Our fly tying selection just got boosted by $10K and we have more materials arriving in the next few days. If you need tying materials, our store is a great place to find what you need.

I’m a 67-year old woman and would love to find someone to fish the deschutes with; I’m fairly self-sufficient, but would rather not hang out alone
