Happy Turkey Hangover Day!

Starting in the month of December, we will be closed on Sundays through the winter. We will also be closed December 21-January 1. The reopening in 2026 will be on the 2nd of January. During our closed time, we will be shipping orders but the shipping will take place every couple of days.
Just drove back from Portland this morning to get back to the shop for BLACK FRIDAY. It was rainy and foggy in Portland and misted on us all the way over the mountain. While we normally break through the trees into the sunshine on Juniper Flat, that was not the case this morning. It is still misty and foggy over here. But, the air temperatures are warm, there isn't a breath of wind, and the high overcast should trigger a good BWO hatch today.
On Thanksgiving day, Gabor hit the river with a few buddies who have houses in Maupin. There were suspicious bumps and pulls for the guys swinging for steel, but the trout anglers were the only ones who cleaned up. It looks like they made the most of their day on the water.

The river is in great shape and the fishing has been good lately. The trout seem happy out there but the steelhead have been a bit more difficult to find lately. They are in the river and spread out throughout the system, but having been in the system for a while now, they are losing a lot of their spunk and desire to eat flies. Unfortunately, the Deschutes does NOT have a winter run of steelhead, so there are no more fresh fish coming into the system. If you love chasing steelhead, it is just about time to turn your attention to rivers with winter-run fish that will be strong and chrome-bright, having just entered the rivers from the ocean.
I am going to keep this one short - just wanted to get a fishing report out!
TIght lines!
